The Parable of the Sower and Seed

Luke 8:5-15

The Big Idea: A Christ-followers will love, understand, obey and communicate the word of God.

2 Corinthians 13:5

The parables of the soils not only says that the kingdom advances slowly and with varied responses to the proclamation of that kingdom but implicitly challenges hearers to ask themselves what kinds of soil they are.

D. A. Carson

Luke 8:4-8

If we are to understand God’s Word, we want to actually know what it means and ask God to enable us to know what it means.

Luke 8:9-10

Romans 3:11

Ephesians 4:18

Luke 8:11-15

The roadside soil – God’s Word will be responded to with Satanic rejection.

2 Corinthians 4:3–4

The rocky soil – When God’s Word goes forth, some people will have a shallow, emotional response to it.
Emotional responses prove nothing unless those responses line up with the Word of God.
The thorny soil – They listen to the Word of God but the cares of the world chokes off any real commitment.

1 John 2:15–17

The priority of the Christ-followers is to “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you”.
The good soil – God’s Word will be responded to with honest commitment.
