Living Sacrifices

John 2:5

“Be half a Christian and you shall have enough religion to make you miserable.”

Charles Spurgeon

Romans 12:2

“When people ask me, “What’s the will of God for my life?” I reply, “Are you asking me if you should be a lawyer or a baker, or whether you should marry Jane or Virginia?”, I tell you simply what the Bible says about it: “This is the will of God, your sanctification” (1 Thess. 4:3). It doesn’t matter what our job is or whom we marry or what city we live in. If we are not growing in sanctification, seeking God’s will about such things is worthless. God’s will for each of us is that we grow into spiritual maturity, that our lives become more fully set apart and consecrated by the Holy Spirit, and that our minds are changed. After that we will be able to tell what is pleasing to God. Then we will be able to know what he wants us to do—that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

R.C. Sproul

Habits: “present your bodies”

Heart: “living sacrifices”

Head: “discern the will of God”

“Here the assumption is that the transformation of character and conduct brought about by the renewal of the Christian’s mind is precisely what equips such a Christian to test and approve God’s will — that is, to discover personally and experientially that his ways are best.”

D.A. Carson

“To know beyond doubt what I ought to do, and knowing to do it, seems to me to be heaven on earth, and the man that has it needs but little more.”

Alexander Maclaren
