- John 11:5-6
When Jesus heard that Lazarus was ill, “he stayed two days longer in the place where he was” (John 11:6). Instead of going to Lazarus immediately, Jesus waited. Why did Jesus wait? John 11:5 tells us it was because of love. Reading John 11:5 and John 11:6 together, we see that it was because of his great love for Lazarus that Jesus waited to help Lazarus. This is how God works. God’s timing is different from our timing. He sees things we can’t see. He has plans that we do not yet understand. In the case of Lazarus, Jesus waited in order to do a greater work in and through Lazarus’s life – the greatest sign Jesus had yet performed in John’s Gospel. God’s timing is never off. He always knows what he is doing.
